I am a Canadian writer. Nature plays many unusual but important roles in all my fiction.

My debut novel, "Perdita," was recently published by Sourcebooks (USA); Simon & Schuster (Canada) and La Courteschelle (French).

As a young girl, I spent many of my summers on the shores of Georgian Bay, a large and beautiful body of freshwater that is part of Lake Huron. It was as a child that I developed a deep love of wild nature and the beauty of Canada's rugged, unpredictable landscapes. Throughout my life, I've always come back to my Georgian Bay family and roots.

I've also always been drawn to the literary classics, as well as the Victorian gothic tradition. I decided to explore both my love of nature and literature by writing fiction.

I currently live in Toronto with my husband, Stephen Scharper, a professor at the University of Toronto. It was my erudite husband who described my first novel as "Jane Eyre on Georgian Bay," and christened my writing as an emerging literary form—the eco-gothic.
