Hillora Lang grew up knowing that she didn't fit where she'd landed, but could never figure out why. A light began to dawn when she discovered Robert A. Heinlein's novel, Stranger in a Strange Land. It all became clear to her then: she was an alien, dropped onto a strange planet where her kind had no frame of reference for what it meant to be human. Untethered from the rest of the world, she floated in a place of dreams, myths, and secret lives, listening to the stories in her head. As an adult diagnosed with high-functioning autism, she was finally able to craft a life from her dreams, encompassing writing, collage, and nurturing animals.

Hillora graduated from the Vermont College of Fine Arts with a Master's degree in Writing for Children and Young Adults. Her writing explores the nuances of young people creating their lives, as they learn what it means to be human. She also volunteers as a writing instructor in local programs for teens and pre-teens, encouraging kids to develop their own creativity. She lives in coastal North Carolina in a home filled with beautiful rocks, handmade paper, and a herd of mythical cats.
