maybe it’s really time
          to let that person go now.
          
          not in the way
          of choosing to leave,
          
          but in the way life already did.
          
          you keep looking for them
          in places they used to be.
          
          in habits that don’t make sense
          without them anymore.
          
          you still talk
          like they might hear you.
          
          but some goodbyes
          don’t ask for permission.
          
          they just happen,
          
          and leave you here,
          
          learning how to live
          with someone
          who no longer can.
