He might've loved before, and he may love again, but he will never love like he did with River. He will never live and laugh and cry and learn and love with anyone, the way he did with Melody Pond.
She is The Doctors strength and his weak spot. She's his darkest moments and his brightest days. She's his guilt and his pride. She's his confinement and his freedom.
And she stayed with him through it all. Through all of his dumb and/or deadly decisions, through all of the trials and errors, through all of the forgotten memories, through all the trouble of their Time-Forbidden love. She stayed, and so did he.
Because they knew that it was better to love, if only for a short time, than to endlessly and infinitely regret letting the other slip through their fingers. And that seemingly small act of telling her his name, that little thing, proves it all. That she is the only person in the history of the universe to be told the doctors name. That's how he shows her he loves her.
He doesn't give her the moon or the stars or the universe, because you can't give those to someone who already has them. He gives her a piece of himself. Perhaps the most important part. In one single word, a whispy thing, he gives her himself.
