"Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."

          - Romans 8: 34

          Inspiration

Sometimes, it feels like every mistake we make is magnified. As Christians, we are under a microscope while our enemies watch and wait for some error, some sin, that they can use to shout accusations about us. But our defense has been fully covered by Jesus’ death and resurrection. He has made us new by His grace, and against His forgiveness, no accusation can stand.

          Prayer

God, the accuser whispers in my ear. He taunts me through my family and friends. He burdens me with doubt and guilt. Lord, I call on the power of Your death and resurrection to silence Him. For I have been made blameless by You. Help me to live in the full assurance of Your vindication, and not be weighed down by accusations. In Jesus’ name, amen.

"Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me."

          - John 21: 22

          Inspiration

Sometimes, we wonder why other people have an easier time than we do. ‘Why me?’ we lament. But do we ask ‘why me?’ when we are given an easier load than our neighbor? Usually, we don’t. God calls us each to our specific purpose, and we serve Him best when we focus on His will and plan for us, instead of comparing our circumstances to those of our neighbors.

          Prayer

Father, thank You for calling me and equipping me to serve You and Your kingdom. I do not understand why You have chosen me for the life You have given me, but I ask that You empower me to faithfully serve where You have placed me. Protect my heart from envy over those whose path seems easier, and let me not lose compassion for those whose struggle is greater. In Jesus’ name, amen.

"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

          - Psalms 118: 24

          Inspiration

In this song, the psalmist celebrates God’s love, provision, protection, and mercy. No matter what enemies come against us, no matter what sins mar our daily victory, God is sovereign. He has made this day, and each day. And we rejoice knowing that He is present and faithful, no matter what the day brings.

          Prayer

Lord, I begin this new day celebrating Your love. You have been good to me, and I rejoice that You have given me this new day. When I stumble, help me to turn back to You. When I am pressed by stress and conflict, be my place of refuge. May nothing rob me of the joy of knowing that this day is Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

"Now therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord God, even thou only."

          - 2 Kings 19: 19

          Inspiration

It’s easy to cry out to God when things go wrong. We call out asking Him to defeat our enemies, to heal our illnesses, and to overcome our trials. But what motivates our cry? Is it simply our own desperation, or do we want others to know that our God is the One True God? Let us call on the Lord knowing that the glory is His and that our lives are living testimonies to His greatness.

          Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for faithfully rescuing me from sin and death. Thank You for all the times that You have snatched me from defeat. Lord, I seek Your hand again in my current difficulty. I pray not just for my own sake, but for the sake of all who witness Your power, that You would rescue me again, and be glorified in my story. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

"And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."

          - Mark 8: 34

          Inspiration

Jesus didn’t suffer the cross just to provide an upgrade to the life that we make for ourselves. Rather, he calls us to a life of carrying our own cross. Not to bear our own punishment (for Jesus has already done that), but to put to death our lordship over our own lives as we follow Jesus wherever he leads.

          Prayer

Father God, I confess that all too often I choose my way over Yours. Help me to put away all of the desires, priorities, and pride of my old sinful nature, to crucify my old self. Fill me instead with a new life lived in step with You, empowered by Your victory so that I may walk in obedience as I follow wherever You lead me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass."

          - Psalms 37: 7

          Inspiration

It’s hard to see evil win. When scams and fraud succeed, or when a coworker uses lies and manipulation to get ahead, injustices make us want to do something. But instead of retaliating, and giving in to evil, the Lord calls us to trust Him and His timing. He is not blind to evil, and He will deal with it in time. So as we wait on Him He fills us with His peace, even in the midst of evil.

          Prayer

Lord, the injustice around me breaks my heart, and makes me angry. Thank You for being my retreat. Teach me to be still in Your presence, to know that injustice will not go unanswered. Help me to dwell in Your peace so that I can endure the evil around me, and not become like the unjust and the schemers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
