            “ ah i see , so this / was / an assassination attempt , “ he joked half heartedly , not that it mattered , very rarely could non superpowered humans hurt him , but he would give credit where credit was due : the arrow could’ve killed him if he was anyone else .

as the loud blast echoed through the clearing , krueger was certain mark would drop like a fly . already moved on to reloading his rifle , his brow furrowed as a metallic TINK on concrete caught his attention . 
            for a moment , he simply stared down at the crushed bullet on the ground , and finally , his gaze returned to the hero , alive and whole . skull intact . 
            
            ' . . . you're bulletproof . '

            “ okay , seriously , it’s not gonna hurt me at all — “ the slight pinch of what was probably a bullet hitting the side of his head interrupted him . it was only a little bit annoying , mainly because it felt like the equivalent of someone throwing a stone instead of a high caliber sniper rifle trying to end his life . 
            still mark made a point of pausing and glancing in the general direction of the sniper , while crossing his arms . if his eyes weren’t covered by goggles he’d be rolling them . 

not aware of the young hero's near invincibility , it shielded its eyes from the sunlight to glare up at the familiar face . 
            he certainly wasn't in the mood to be sprayed with brain matter and blood .

            mark blinked as john charged at him , in the effort of being somewhat fair he tried to slow his movements , dodging when he needed to and for the most part trying not to make much contact with john . mark was nervous he’d accidentally get carried away , and something like throwing john against a wall was a very real possibility if he wasn’t careful . mark wasn’t formally trained either — unless his dad counted , which he hesitated to even praise him for his skills in combat .

            he let out a soft snort , as if he could feel the jealousy radiating off from mark .  was the said man seriously jealous at someone like ghost ?  many were , so this didn’t surprise john in the slightest as he strained his stance .  “ yes sir..  and try not holdin’ back too much .  at the very least don’t send me crashin’ into a wall or leave with several broken bones .  ”  he hummed before charging , one of the youngest within the SAS for a reason..  named SOAP for a reason .  he was quick on his feet .

            for a moment he felt a slight tinge of jealousy , he could be a good sparring partner ! instantly his form was much more serious , although it was a guarantee he’d win on account of his super strength , he would try to go easy on john , “ come at me then and find out . “

            he smiled as he took the kit , before handing the flash drive over to ash , “ let’s just say the guy i fought had it on him — and . . . cecil wanted it but i don’t really trust him right now , so i might as well find out what’s on it . “
            there was a lot more to the story but it was clear mark was more focused on wrapping the bandages around his arm tightly so that it would stay in place . it was a temporary fix , but he would live .

     there was a  moment of silent  as ash walked  into another room to grab the spare bandages . the question in mind.  it was quick since he kept  them in a kit nearby the entrance  . made some  days or nights  easier for himself . 
            when walking back in the room, he held the kit to mark a small * here * leaving him  . `` i would say  I'm pretty decent  ..  its been  a while since I've   done   something like that, though  .  ``  he answered    finally  .   ``   why  ?  ``

            mark shook his head , for now he’d at least set his arm back into place , it was more of a matter of splinting it , “ do you have any spare bandages ? “ 
            this wasn’t really the reason why he stopped by ash’s place — sometimes he hated being worried over and this was one of those instances . he reached into the pocket of his hoodie tugging out a flash drive , “ also . . . would you say you’re good at decrypting stuff ? “

            “ aw , he talks about me ? “ instantly the hero’s expression turned more fond and flustered , although he quickly masked it for the sake of seeming somewhat professional .
            “ yeah , you found the right guy — but usually people don’t actively look for me unless they need help with something sooooo . . . “ he motioned for the other to give some sort of reason as to why he was here in the first place .

            “ you’re the one soap speaks of often  ,  no ?  ” rudy arched a brow , him and soap never spoke often but did keep in contact ever since the graves betrayal happened .  and there was only one person who fit the description he kept hearing about , flying..  dark hair..  invincible so they’ve been called .  “ seems rather fond of you .  parece que también le gustan los fantasmas… ”

            “ define ‘ close ‘ , “ the hero joked as he floated around , looking at his phone . he recognized the man , but it wasn’t like they’d had a proper conversation before .

            “ it’s okay , i just don’t . . . think i’d be able to handle it if you did it again , “ graves was a rare constant in his life , just the thought of being alone without him made his stomach tie up in knots . it was only for a second but mark gripped graves tighter sighing softly , he’d be alright as long as the other man didn’t do it again , he didn’t need some grand gesture .
            “ just be honest with me from now on , okay ? “ on the surface it was a small request , but mark was starting to get tired of not truly knowing how graves felt and if this was going to get serious it was all the more reason for them to be able to have proper conversations .

            inhaling a sharp breath , graves controlled his body not to shiver .  hands remained clutched to the other’s back , he wouldn’t let himself break— at least.. not completely .  but for once he’d let down some of those walls he’s been hiding from mark all this time .  “ i’m not an easy man to figure out .  ” he huffed out a small laugh , trying to lighten the mood a little .  couldn’t stand how tense the air still felt around them .  “ i really am sorry .  there a way i can possibly make it up to you ?  i’m no rich man despite the military funds but i can at least show my utmost apology in its truest form .  ” he didn’t know how , but graves would figure it out somehow .  even throughout all the frustration , he feared loosing the other most of all .

            mark took a moment to just stay still , relishing each kiss that was given to him before shifting , burying his face in the crook of graves’s neck , “ yeah … i know but sometimes i don’t know i guess . “
            it was hard to explain the feeling of understanding and believing he deserved to be pushed away or berated , it was something he was struggling to unlearn . mark closed his eyes and let himself relax , he’d probably let a few tears dribble down his cheeks , at this rate he was too tired to care . trust didn’t come easily , but at the very least he trusted graves enough to just hold him .

            being in the military taught him discipline , as did his own maw—  who would more than certainly smack him upside the head if he said anything wrong .  without much thought , hands would cling to the other almost as if john lived on physical touch (which he did) .   “ whatever you want .  the earlier the better i’d say .  ” he hummed , as much as he loved seeing family .  the scot also didn’t want to be late to the party later either , wasn’t every day 141 ever got to relax quite like this .

            mark chuckled quietly at that , he trusted john and he knew that he wouldn’t do anything wrong on purpose . very rarely did he see the other look nervous over something , he walked over , caressing his cheek and pressing an affectionate kiss on the corner of his lips , “ wanna head out now then ? we don’t need to stay super long . “
            mark was mainly telling himself that , just because whenever he visits the time goes by so quickly , he hardly even realizes how long he stays . maybe that was just a testament of how awesome his mom was .

            “ aye .  i know when tae bite my tongue .  ” despite his often reckless and impulsive behavior , john knew when to behave himself .  especially at the face of someone else’s family , let alone MARK’S family .  he wanted to make a good impression , no..  BEST impression .  never wanted to disappoint .  “ i’m sure i will .  if they’re anythin’ like you .  ” he knew the other god that kindness from somewhere , and it surely wasn’t that father he’s unfortunately heard so much about .
