I am an aspiring writer (surprise!) working on a YA superhero novel called Hundred Dollar Heroes: First Contact. The first book in the series introduces readers to a world where aliens have been living among us for 150 y. People have taken to the alien presence like nothing before and love the new additions to our world. Some people loved them so much they wanted to be like them and started "augmenting" themselves. Over time, this turned into manipulating DNA which over time turned into Augments being born. Augments were more than human, but not alien. The world was a new place full of wonder and strange beings. The HDH were created by an amalgamation of Earthling and alien forces to police the new world- for a price. The HDH is a for-profit corporation dedicated to keeping the peace, and people employed. Our team follows the first six members of the field team, comprised of young superheroes ready to make a name for themselves. 
Psion leads the team with her psychic powers. Although she is the older of the HDH, at only 20 years old she still has a lot to learn about being a superhero, a leader, and a good person.
Implant is the next oldest HDH. He is a young man who has been mechanically augmented with cybernetic implants making him super strong, fast and has a computer for most of his brain. He's also quite surly. 
Prism is a Native American teen who wants nothing more than to be free. She can fly and make exploding spheres of energy. But her heritage and dedication to her family keeps her tied down.
Purge is the youngest member and the jokester. He is green with a prehensile tail and can secrete a sticky substance from his hands and feet. He tries to keep things light. Always.
Rumble is Purge's best friend. A young man that absorbs energy and transforms it into muscle and mass. A brilliant mind is hidden by his hulking physique. 
Mucus finishes the team, an alien of snot-like consistency, he's trying to find his place in the world. He can change his density.
