So I was reading, and I noticed how in books (fanfiction or not) characters who have emotions towards one another often feel each other's heartbeats. This gave me an idea for a cool soulmates AU, feel free to use it as long as you give me credit.
So people's hearts beat at different rates, right? Well you and your soulmate's hearts beat at the exact same time. You're both born at the same time down to the second, and you die at the same time.
A and B (who are in a relationship) are laying down with A's head on B's chest and A suddenly realizes that B's heart beat is a lot slower than theirs.
A and B are old and one day A dies and B doesn't and B realizes that the person they spent their life with isn't their soulmate.
A reading a story on the news (after being released from the hospital recently) about a person who's heart stopped beating for 5 minutes and they check the date in the news story and realizes that the same thing happened to them for the same amount of time on the same exact day, and going on a flight to another country to meet their soulmate.
A and B are soulmates and they die but the doctors do the thing where they shock you and your heart starts beating again (can't remember the name lol) to B but they can't save A so they survive but their soulmate is dead and then B meets C and idk maybe C hasn't met their soulmate and besides, even if A wasn't dead their heart rates are obviously different but B and C end up falling in love against their better judgements.
I feel like there are a lot of cool things you can do with this.
