I was born in Dallas, Texas, the son of Donna Joan and Alan Roger Ackles, an actor. I have a brother, Joshua, who is three years older than me, and sister, Mackenzie, who is seven years younger than me. I speak English, Irish and Scottish ancestry. I had planned to study sports medicine at Texas Tech University and become a physical therapist but instead I moved to Los Angeles to start my acting career.
