For those of you who don't know, I'm an African American female who lives in America...which is proving to be the toughest thing for me and everyone like me
I should be worried about what college I'm going to, not worrying about if I'll be pulled over and killed or not.
I should protest against my high school's dress code...not demanding rights and protection that should be given to me because I'm an American.
The thought of leaving my house is terrifying. I have nightmares about being pulled over and beaten...or worse, killed.
From a young age all African American people are taught to ALWAYS comply with the police, and to do whatever they say. We're also taught to fear the police because they can murder us in broad daylight and hide behind a badge.
However, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I refuse to stand by silently while my brothers and sisters are beaten, raped, and murdered by people who are sworn to protect everyone.
As a firefighter, I took an oath to protect everyone and everything. Whether you're a baby, an old man, a dog, black, white, or even muslim. I willingly risk my life to save other people's lives without even thinking of it. This is the same oath that policemen and women take, but they murder us, attest us over nothing, beat us, and humiliate us. Letting this go on will only allow it to increase.
So I'm asking everyone to please stand by me and support any charity that's helping this cause... because our voices will be heard.
