So what's up with you and maysilee? (Haymitch asked casually, tossing cracked corn ways away to get the geese off his back, waiting for Lenore Dove to come)

haygeese--

She is different though. Besides Asterid and Merilee, you're the only person she's nice to. (Haymitch had emptied his hand of corn and was just watching her)

⠀ ⠀ i have a hard time believing that. ( annabel rose sticks out her tongue playfully. the blush doesn’t go away, though. ) she doesn’t act any different with me. and we’re just friends ! for now, at least.

Come on. I do notice things besides Lenore Dove. (He grinned teasingly at her reaction) It's sweet and I like seeing this second side of maysilee. Almost makes her seem normal when she's with you.

Oh, hi Annabelle Rose. Like my new house? Too big for my liking.

haygeese--

(he gave a small grateful smile just watching as she laid out the food.) I guess if you're not giving me a choice. (Haymitch grabbed some goat cheese and nibbled on it slowly) I'll apologize to him eventually and Asterid. I know they were only trying to help it's just.... (Just everything. This wasn't the way he thought it'd go and he could only keep wishing it was nothing more than some horribly realistic nightmare) Cheese is nice. Thank you.

⠀ ⠀ ( annabel rose sits down at the table, fingers tracing the expensive wood. she opens the basket, beginning to layout what she brought. she wasn’t going to leave him alone— she never did and she wasn’t going to start now. ) no use waiting for me to leave. i don’t plan on going anywhere, anytime soon.

It's fine. (It takes everything in Haymitch to stay calm and he really hates that it does. It's not like he /wants/ to be alone. He's just so hurt and traumatized and heartsick he can't help lashing out.) Thank you... I'll eat later. (He stared at the basket wistfully)

⠀ ⠀ well, ain’t the flower the colour ? [ annabel rose’s face is stern as she asks, but a moment later the facade falls. a wide smile grows on her lips, hopefully breaking any tension she caused. ] it’s rose like the colour ! they said my cheeks were the rosiest they ever saw when they found me ! us covey are always named after the color.

"See?? Not my fault I didn't hear you coming. Why are you out here anyways? Can't be to talk to the likes of me."

⠀ ⠀ annabel rose shakes her head, taking the spot besides haymitch in the grass. “ now we both know that’s just excuses, hay. well — i guess you are right ‘bout us covey ! ”
