Tony glanced up from where he was crouched under the hood of one of his cars — sleeves rolled, smudge of oil across his forearm, a half-finished wrench job balanced precariously on the edge of genius and disaster.

He arched an eyebrow, that familiar Stark smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.

“Relax, kid. I’ve only voided the warranty on / half / the car so far.”

He wiped his hands on a rag, straightened up, and pointed the wrench at her like a teacher with a ruler.

“And don’t threaten me with Pepper. That’s low. Besides, she’s the reason I’m fixing this myself — she said I ‘wasn’t allowed to hire a pit crew for personal projects.’”

He tilted his head, mock offense in his tone.

“You doubting me, or just looking for an excuse to snitch?”

At the Battle of Earth, Tony found another way.

When Doctor Strange raised a single finger, Tony didn’t snap — he rewired. Using his nanotech interface and knowledge of the Stones’ energy flow, he redirected their output through the armor’s containment field instead of his body. It nearly killed him, but he lived — fractured, burned, and forever altered.

He retired soon after the victory, retreating to a quiet coastal home with Pepper and Morgan. Yet peace, for Tony Stark, is temporary.
When the next wave of threats rose — Kree incursions, multiversal rifts, the absence of key Avengers — Tony returned, not as the front-line hero, but as the builder. He trains a new generation: Riri Williams, Peter Parker, and even a young mutant prodigy he funds anonymously.

He doesn’t wear the suit every day anymore. But he never stopped being Iron Man.
