I couldn't find find an engaging story that would scratch that very specific itch in my brain, but yours just hit the mark. A book about alien planets and discovery, with immersive writing, brilliant worldbuilding and plot, and sprinkled with accurate scientific info.
Reading every chapter is a pleasure, since the slow pace unravels the world and expands it. The sudden plot twists don't weaken, but strengthen the story, since they establish that the protagonist knows nothing about how the alien world works and who's the 'good' guy / on his side and who's not.
