@Idieyidot English is my second language too, but hit me up if you need any help (here or via a private message, whichever way you feel more comfortable).  I am not a big history whiz either, that's why I mostly make up the setting and characters myself. It's all about informing yourself using the Internet, archives or libraries to find out a bit more about the period you write in. It's very fun! :)
