I had the privilege of growing up in a family who had such a love for books, that we affectionately named our attic, basement and any spare space in our house as the "library". If you found a book you liked, you dare not set it down for fear of someone else absconding with the "precious" (yes, that was a LOTR referral). With my seven siblings having different preferences to literature styles, this led to our subsequent exposure to other genres. I like to think this led to the well-rounded exploration of literature.
Now I am passing this love of all things literature onto my daughter, who I think is the cutest thing on the face of the earth. But I'm told I'm highly biased in my opinion. (But I claim parental prerogative). She has this habit of taking the book away and telling it her way. (I have no idea where she got her independent nature....).
