Okay ...
I've given it a couple of days and now I'd like to say how disappointed I am to not win anything in this year's Watty Awards. I truly love my book, The Magician's Will, and believe it deserves a larger audience.
I began Magician's Will as a love letter to my own youth as a kid magician, visiting magic shops, practicing tricks for my parents and siblings, and looking up to pros like David Copperfield, Lance Burton, Rudy Coby and so many others.
Of course, I took Magician's Will into a fanciful, quite unrealistic direction, but through it all, I layered my adoration inside the text, and honestly, it took me in directions that I didn't see it going at first. Ideas of acceptance, found family and joyous, fearless living.
I'm so glad it has found even a small audience and at the end of the day, I'm honored it was shortlisted at all in the contest. We'll see where it goes from here. Cheers!
