@MinecraftStoryMaker About Our Stars, maybe in the next chapter they can stop with the ride and hunt for some Hoglins (since they are like pigs), so maybe Steve can actually talk with some guards to make some friends. Ask them about Nether and how Herobrine claimed his position for a King of Nether, and for the action, maybe some spies from the Overworld like is there and maybe we can have some fight scenes and plus with that we can see more of your Herobrine's lore and his strength same with Nether guard's one. If you don't like that maybe the cause of that lil horse ride is to bring Steve somewhere so he can defeat someone who they keep captured like other strong entity, so Steve can do his first task as a 'loyal' servant to Herobrine. And since Steve maybe still has his dragon necklace Herobrine can comment something about that so they start a conversation, like about Ender Dragon or maybe even other Gods he know (idk if Ender Dragon is God/Goddess in your book lore)
