            Its confirmed In Uncle Mimic's bio on the Half-Genie Hero manual that Shantae is set in an... 'After the end' kind of world. As for why, my suggestion would be the arrival of Genie's had caused a social upheaval that ended... horribly. And if you want ideas for how this could be relevant I have three 1. the reason why Shantae gets fired - there is some prejudice against genies 2. Rottytops is the result of a bioweapon 3. Some of the monsters were made by the Genies but went rogue
            
            sonic is a "nature vs technology", but reality is technology can be helpful and nature can be violent
            
            Mega man represents how technology can be helpful (that's why I think sonic/Mega man crossover works) but as for how nature can be violent, Monster hunter can see the possibility's
