Hi, JdotPatna4. I've been reading your COTE work, and I want to say that it's really interesting. Such interesting ideas and execution, and I admire your consistency regarding the work.

If possible, I would be thankful to get tips from the writer who has made that far with his work. Advice on planning out a plot, brainstorming and knowing the things you would write in a chapter, etc, drafting and editing.
          Literally, any advice would do.

I hope you are doing well. Thanks for reading.

@kiyorisu_ayanon I'm from England, but my surname is Partner - I actually had a teacher in school who was from Patna, so he used to change my name to Patna during rollcall - then it stuck as a nickname!

Conversations can be tricky to write, for the most part I try to draw from own personal experiences; a lot of the jokes and sweet moments in my work draw from conversations i've already been a part of in real life, or even experiences my friends have had. Though it's also important to note that when you write a conversation between characters, there should be a goal to it, like building a relationship or showing that two characters don't get along or trust each other. It doesn't need to be a long conversation, so long as you get your point across. When it comes to mindset, just try your best to enjoy writing and it will come naturally - remember that this isn't a job, fan fiction doesn't pay; so if you don't enjoy it you'll lose motivation quickly. Hope this helps!

@JdotPatna4 Lol, I was just about to ask you for some tips, but it seems others have come asking too. Thanks for sharing; that was really helpful. Could you also tell me how to develop the right mindset? I also struggle a bit with keeping conversations going—how can I improve that? Good luck! By the way, I wanted to ask if you're from India; the 'Patna' in your name is the name of my city.

Feel free to ignore this, but I had a question about your recent work (Mentor, the peak).

You are making your own story, yet using all major plotpoints (like Sakura stalker, swimming class, etc.) in order too.

I was wondering how many chapters/developments you plan out beforehand?
And do you read the entire LN again before starting on your own volume, or how do you so accurately recall the canon events chronologically to address them in your peak fic?

I want to change up my writing style to be a little more like yours, a bit more consistent and with more variety in words, but I genuinly dont know how.

Again, Feel free to ignore this if you're busy, and good luck on writing your next chapters!

          Bye-bye!

(Also srry if my English sucks, its not my first language so I hope I got everything across fine )

@PieterHofkens Your English is amazing for a second language, I genuinely had no idea!

When it comes to planning, for me it all centres around the characters, rather than the plotpoints. The plotpoints can all be found listed in order online, so I use them as the tools to get a character from point A to point B

Let's say as an example I wanted a big reveal at the end of volume 4.5 to be Hirata and Kiyo getting into a relationship (which obvs is not the case!) - I would know that I have the Zodiac exam and potentially a spread your legs scene I could use to advance the characters and the relationships towards that point during volume 4, as well as maybe the pool scene or fortune teller scene in volume 4.5

When it comes to the plotpoints themselves, I don't reread - I copy and paste exam rules from the You-Zitsu Wiki, or sometimes I actually look over reaction fics both to double check something, but also see what points readers find interesting (though I have read every volume 3-4 times too, when I first got into COTE it was a hyperfixation)

In terms of variety in words, I use Google all the time for synonyms, especially when writing Kiyo. I'm by no means a genius, so if I need to write him looking smart i'll often just use an online thesaurus to spruce up his wording and terminology a bit

Hope this helps, and if anything doesn't make sense let me know!
