The later may not be of concern to keyboard victuriosos, but those who might be harassed by Microsoft updates they do not want ought to heed this warning:
After routinely declining the 10 and 11 ongoing plague l gave up and left my laptop on overnight. It took two more days and night before l was blessed with that crap and inundated with more, the full screen ads for Microsoft 365, including aps and tariffs. It took me several turn on/off cycles to get rid of this nonsense and get back to work but, surprise, my keyboard is now inert...
Trying to find a solution online l came across several reports about this trouble... l have been using a fairly recent Lenovo laptop but l succesfully shifted to an older Hewlett Packard and shutting off the wifi just-in-case. Guess what, a few hours later it came back on... Can't blame Microsoft yet, but l'm not holding my breath.

@Jeanpragot I'm in the ssame boat as you and as much as I hate to say it, that's why I switched to Mac. Windows 11 is a cesspit. I don't like it at all. Windows 7, and downwards (except for Vista) were the absolute best, in my opinion. I don't like being harrassed for needless updates by companies. It really does suck that you had to upgrade like that. Windows are ruining their software with needless stuff. I remember when it was all simple, easy to use and no fuss. Everything was how you wanted it to be. Yes, Apple's not much better but at least they don't force you to update and you can turn it off. Windows should have it in 11, and make it easy to do so. It's not fair of people who want/need an older version of Windows. I have a gaming laptop, but it doesn't get pulled out as much now 'cause I have a virtual machine installed on my main machine. It works, but it's not as good as the original XP (it's also for gaming).

JP, how are you doing? I haven't seen any new stories or anything from you in a while. Are you doing OK?

@wontlookdown Thanks for the moral support... :))

Sitting outside on a lovely day watching planes make contrails in the sky, and I thought of you. Thank you for teaching me a word I never knew before reading your work.

JP, how are things? Thanks for reading, I hope things are good your way. I feel like my life is back together.
I am not ready or even thinking of moving for a long time. I rather enjoy a house full of people. Not only people but three cats. I just got myself a dog.
Her name is Raven, two months old Golden Retriever. Talk about a handful, but it keeps me busy. Take care JP.

@dram12 Good news. I am glad you are having a four-feet family, plus your daughters of course. Looking back the best have been my dogs and cats and my one daughter and her boys... All more than grown up now... I'm fine as can be, now pushing 84. Age brings slowdowns and limitations, the worse -unexpectedly- being balance. I have taken a few bad falls, the last on ice covered by an inch of fluffy snow... l'm telling you this, given your move north. Be careful. I am enjoying your take on the Vikings. They were my favorite reading characters long before I found genealogy and Northerners on both sides of my family. One was most likely a mercenary given a farm in reward for services in one of the many wars (colourfull stuff with one reigning duke dying on an iced up lake and almost devored by wolves...) long before the French revolution. Then, the Kings of Sweden were supplying warriors to other monarchs of Europe... My mother's maiden name came to Lorraine with someone from a farm, probably in Denmark, dedicated to Hella where the help traditionally got the same moniker 'Helle.' Anyway, take care and my best to you and family.

Has anyone heard from @Jeanpragot lately?

Thanks Jean for the note on the pic… it’s a mix of that newfangled thing taking over the art scene, artificial intelligence (Now there’s a writing prompt for you!) and a conglomeration of photos… so it’s really me, sort of. I was feeling rather warrior-ish, so I’m glad the sentiment came thru. Careful of all that Game of thrones, nonsense… you’ll be trying to teach your cat to breathe fire!

Well, my friends, now that the Xmas spirit is molding amidst scarlet ribbons and re-packaged unwanted gifts and before the rowdy echoes of resolutions bathed in the fumes of unfamiliar drink bring you to the matt, here's a book for you:

If Elon Musk's or the Meta princelet's doings bring you to barfing levels rivaling the latest pandemic, try this takedown of the Corporate enslaving of young minds. Fun.
