WARNING: Depressing Status up ahead, but I’m hoping it will bring awareness to some people
Early Saturday morning, a sophomore in my high school was killed by a drunk driver. He was 15 years old. His 22 year old sister was driving, and was also killed in the collision. She had just gotten accepted into college. Both of these people were - are are still - greatly loved, with so much more potential they could have offered to this world.
The drunk driver was a 24 year old man. He knew what he was doing due to him driving for several years. My whole point to this is: make the right decisions. This man had already been taken in 3 times prior due to similar charges (drunk driving). He knew what he was doing, and still decided to do it anyway. However, this time he took two innocent lives with him.
What I ask: please, PLEASE think your actions through before you act on them. This all could’ve been prevented if he or someone else stopped him. I have a friend who recently drank and then drove after. Fortunately for herself and others around her, she made it home safe. However, I worry that she may think that since she made it home safe this one time, then she could drink and drive other times without consequences - like I fear this man might have thought at the time. No matter the situation, drinking and driving is NEVER okay. Call a friend, an UBER - ANYBODY. Not only do you endanger yourself, but you also endanger others around you.
So many people never think they’re going to drink and drive, but as you get older, it seems less serious and is more considered the norm. NEVER let an alcoholic drink or drugs take away not only your life, but possibly someone else’s.
