"When you reach for the stars, you may not quite get one, but you won't come up with a handful of mud either."
Leo Burnett
"This is a story for people who follow their hearts and make their own rules... people who get special pleasure out of doing something well, even if only for themselves... people who know there's more to this living than meets the eye: they'll be right there with Jonathan, flying higher and faster than ever they dreamed."
Richard Bach
"To create is to live twice."
Albert Camus
"Nobody really knows or understands and nobody has ever said the secret. The secret is that it is poetry written into prose and it is the hardest of all things to do..."
Ernest Hemingway
"Like Ernest Hemingway, Scott Fitzgerald experienced landscape as a psychic phenomenon. He had emotional ties in six geographical areas..."
John Kuehl (F. Scott Fitzgeral. A Study of the Short Fiction)
"What you have felt and thought will by itself invent a new style."
F. Scott Fitzgerald
"In truly good writing no matter how many times you read it you do not know how it is done. That is because there is a mystery in all great writing and that mystery does not dis-sect out. It continues and it is always valid. Each time you re-read you see or learn something new."
Ernest Hemingway
I want to write like Glenn Miller and his orchestra playing Perfidia, Moonlight Serenade, Chattanooga Choo Choo and all the others.
I want to write like Rembrandt's The Syndics of the Cloth Makers Guild, or Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp, or his self portraits, or all his other paintings.
I want to write like Goya, Caravaggio, Roy Lichtenstein, Edward Hopper painted.
I want to write like Roland Suso Richter filmed Dresden.
I want to put the scent in my writing, of the field after it has rained, or when it is not raining and it is in the afternoon and then it is night and it is in the summer, but also when it is in all the other seasons.
I don't know if it is possible, but I'll try.
