Where do I even start? Since 2008 after my father's death I have actively been writing poetry. You would think that most of my early work was dark and about death, but none of my work is.
I found my ancestry to be Cherokee Indian the same year as my dad's death. In late '08 - early '09 I was given the title of Tribal Poet of the Tanasi Faraway Cherokee Tribe. (The tribe my family belongs to.) Over the years I have loved working with my tribe and sharing the many stories past on from my ancestors.
As the years go by, my writing began to evolve. I veered towards Patriotism and the struggles soldiers have in the many wars we fight in. 2 years ago I was given the opportunity of a lifetime. Thanks to Shelby County Mayor A.C. Wharton and Joseph Kyles (Veteran Affairs Officer for Shelby County) I then got into Public Speaking and reading my work at Memorial Day and Veteran's Day events across the state of Tennessee.
This past December at my Tribe's Christmas Party I got a pretty big surprise. The Chief of my Tribe brought me in front of the room and made the announcement that I from then on, was elected onto the Tribal Council. At 16 (at the time) that made me the first person in American History as the youngest person elected on ANY tribal council. I was given the new title of youth coordinator of my Tribe.
More recently I was invited and participated at the first Annual Poetry I the Park event hosted by the Poetry Society of Tn. I met a now friend Tim "T-Remedi" Dotson who owner (and executive producer) of Inner City South Performance/Production Company. He told me the he loved my work and would love to work with me at his recording studio. I will soon start working with him in a couple cd's of poetry and spoken word.
I thank God for the many achievements thus far and the many more to come.
