Stjärna is nearly nineteen years old but has a lot to live up to. Although his family is very ordinary, Stjärna is under a lot of pressure. After being caught in a drug deal in Stokholm, Stjärna's parents send him to stay with his godfather, Sven who has lived in the mountains for the last few centuries.
Many years ago Sven got caught up in a scandal and has never been able to live it down amongst the people in Stockholm, his very reason for fleeing to the mountains. But word spreads fast and even the people in the mountains criticize him.
When Stjärna was born on a cold February night, the most miraculous aura Borealis appeared, convincing Sven that Stjärna was a miracle and brought to earth to save him. From then on Sven has had the confidence to live down the hate from those around him. Although it worked well for Sven, Stjärna finds it hard to live up to his expectations.
As soon as he gets to Sven's house in the mountains, Anders, Sven's son, unexpectedly shows up infuriated by his father's intentions to use Stjärna as his savior. Anders decides Stjärna needs to have some scenes knocked into him so brings him to town to get a job working for a Mexican American man who trains and trades horses. Stjärna meets Rosile, the man's daughter and she opens Stjärna eyes to the real magic inside his soul that has nothing to do with Sven's expectations.
