About myself: I grew up in Japan but lived in Hawaiʻi for many years, where I attended college and then graduate school. My husband, who helped me write The Hāmākua Coast, grew up in Hawai'i and his family was tangentially involved in the sovereignty movement. We lived for many years in South Korea and Japan. I have written and translated for the SBS, EBS and KBS networks while in Korea, and worked as a voice actor in Hawaiʻi. My husband has written for Korean television, magazines and a textbook. If you heard English on a Korean television drama from the early- to mid-'90s, he likely wrote or edited it.
