Spam, hacked accounts, and bots are getting worse, and they’re finding new ways to try and get people’s information, pressure users to pay for a useless service, and other things. Please be careful.
There are two main ways I’ve seen them on Wattpad. The first is voting and commenting on a story, usually the last chapter or most recently updated one, saying how they love your story and would like to make a free comic/graphic for you, but to do so, you have to go to a different site (usually Instagram, Discord, or email). Usually they’ll use AI or ask for you to pay for it. A few times, they’ll even say something specific about the chapter, but if they don’t want to talk about the story further on the chapter and want to take the conversation off Wattpad, that’s a tell that the account has an ulterior motive. Don’t trust these accounts.
The most recent scam I’ve seen is pressuring users to click on a link or else you’ll lose the right to publish and/or even edit your stories. These are trickier to spot at first because their profile pic will look like Wattpad Support, some accounts being up for years, but don’t let that fool you. Wattpad SHOULD NOT have this right unless you have violated their rules (which then, they would email you about it).
