I would like to dedicate this space to short stories about the adventures of ratmen from my world, more specifically, mostly, about the ratmen of the Consortium, which is a secret society residing in the hidden town of Ressa, hidden beneath the streets of Redros, the capitol of the Eastern Kingdoms where Theodore II. is currently ruling.
But to know the ratmen's place in my world, first let me begin by a brief introduction. Anatomically, as you would have guessed, they looked basically like rats with certain humanoid traits. Regarding height, in their natural crouched posture, they reached up to the level of a man's knees, if stretched out they could extend as high as the waist. They walked on two feet, ran on four and were immune to most diseases.
They knew how to be particularly inconspicuous. What made them move forward was, most of all, hunger, or rather the constant desire to drive it away. When they had sufficient supplies, they thrived in numbers. But they tended to die as fast as they bred. They liked taking risks. Therefore, it was entirely useless for them to bond too close to their relatives.
The ratmen loved all forms of art and had an exceptional sense of humor. Up to a point that, to a certain extent, they considered their entire existence to be just one big joke. At the same time, aware of the relative shortness of their lives, they tried to make the best out of it. An ordinary ratman, dying of natural causes, which was a rather rare phenomenon, used to live through about twenty winters.
They were equally uninterested in their history or awareness of their very identity. Their naming policy was mostly that names are pretty but unimportant. Hence why only those ratmen important enough actually deserved to have a name at all. As will be the case of most of our protagonists, whether it be their actions or appearance that made them deserving of a name.
