Scene One (the café meeting):
After that letter, both Megan and Manon felt something strange—a mix of love, emotion, and shock.
Five months passed, during which Megan was in treatment until she finally managed to walk again. But since the day she wrote that letter to Manon, she hadn’t seen her at all, for Manon had been away on a holiday in Switzerland with her family.
When Manon returned, she found herself unable to stop thinking about Megan. The same was true for Megan, who struggled with the same feelings.
Early one morning, Manon decided to go to a café on foot. It was about a twenty-minute walk from her apartment, and she wanted the fresh air. She arrived, ordered a black coffee with a croissant, and sat at a table, sipping her coffee slowly.
Suddenly, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around, and to her shock, it was Megan. Manon froze in place, and Megan too stood motionless, not expecting to see her there—she had thought it was one of her other friends.
Finally, the silence broke when Manon’s trembling voice escaped:
— “Megan… what are you doing here?”
Her eyes instinctively fell to Megan’s injured leg, only to realize that she had fully recovered. Megan answered with surprise:
— “I didn’t expect to see you after all this time. I thought you’d never come back… I asked the girls about you, but they said they hadn’t seen you since the day you came to visit me.”
Manon hesitated, unsure what to say. She gathered her strength and whispered:
— “Yes… I was on a trip with my family. I really needed it. I actually wanted to come back a month earlier, but…”
She paused for a moment, then confessed honestly:
— “I was in a car accident. I had to stay there until I recovered. I didn’t tell anyone what happened.”
Megan’s face shifted into shock at what she heard, and all she could say, in a low, shaken voice, was:
— “I’m sorry, Manon… I—”
