I didn't discover my desire to write until what seemed to be the last minute of my education. You see, I started college as a Pre-Med and it took a crash course into bipolar disorder for me to realize that I was simply living my mother's dream and not my own. Breaking free and choosing my own major, I knew I had to make money to survive so I chose Business. However, I didn't have a goal or passion in business, and living for money alone is no way to live so I finally became an English major, not only because it's my strength, but because of its freedom of expression. As I type this description of me, I ponder about the things I will write. One of my favorite genres to read is autobiographies because no matter how crazy or subjective the content is, whatever the narrator is describing actually happened. During my last quarter at Cal State San Bernardino, I enrolled in a Memoir class that equipped me with the experience to tackle my own story. I also discovered in my Short Fiction class that it can be extremely difficult at times to create a story from scratch. Therefore, many of the themes my fiction will contain come from facets of my life. For example, I was raised in a conservative Catholic family, so I am open to being inclusive of religion and politics with proper research. I lost my baby sister at an early age due to a vaccination gone wrong, so I could also write about being an only child or the topic of vaccines. 2020 is certainly a good year for that. Racism and bullying were huge impacts on my childhood and developmental years so writing a children's or YA novel feels like a responsibility to me. Speaking of responsibility, earlier I mentioned being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and I would be remiss not to respectively represent the mental health community because we all could use more awareness. As human beings, relationships are a part of our daily lives and it goes without saying that I will explore them in my stories. Here's to my Wattpad adventure!
