My intention is for Nights on Ponce to be a film noir-inspired thriller. Influences are the works of hardboiled fiction authors like James M. Cain, Dashiell Hammett, and Raymond Chandler.
The story is set in 1951, a time when being gay was not only not accepted but strongly condemned. The protagonist, Harry Hightower, is a 32-year-old white collar businessman (I haven't decided his career yet) who is three years into his marriage and finally admitting to himself that he is gay.
His wife, Lorraine, doesn't know why she and Harry no longer have a sex life. She hires a private detective to find out if Harry is cheating on her. She wants evidence of Harry's infidelity to get a judge to grant her a divorce.
And, there's murder, organized crime and a male prostitution because, why wouldn't there be?
