@Killer023 I grew up poor, too, but we did have electricity and gas heat. We always had a huge garden and raised hogs & chickens, all of which helped feed us through the year. I'm the youngest of six, and we all were educated--most going onto higher education (two engineers and an attorney.)
            
            Have you read "Hillbilly Elegy" by J.D. Vance? Excellent book.

@PrairieCreek yeah I grew up on a mountain never had electricity during the winter.
