              No one questions why a rose has thorns until their blood reddens its cut stem. A rose created its thorns to protect itself from hungry predators, nourish its roots, and compete with other plants for territory.
          
              I am not much different from a rose these days. I have surrounded myself with thorns to fight off all who oppose me, gather rumors to feed my growing vengeful spirit, and to grow stronger than all who wished ill on me.
          
              But the longer I remain here, the mysteries of these thorns grow on me. The secrets and the horrors that have sharpened these men call to me. Not in terms of pity or even wonder, but in realization that these men might be useful to the goals set before me. The people I seek to push down into graves won’t lie there still… some may need to be held there.
          
              A skill I am not yet capable of, but these thorns… these men were bred for that very thing. And the longer I remain around them, my red vision that kept vengeance strumming in my chest begins paling into grey as my morals shift to doing things almost equal to what others did to torment me.
