What is fiction? It is the other side of the coin that is reality. Fiction can affect us just as much as the "real world" can. Don't believe me? Think back to the unjust execution of Ned Stark, the outrage you felt at Joffrey betraying him. What about the tears you shed for Dobby when Bellatrix killed him? Remember when you cheered for Luke destroying the Death Star? The relief you felt when Spider-Man saved a subway full of people? The joy when Snow White is awoken from the cursed sleep by Love's First kiss? These are all fictional beings, but we grew to know them, love them, and thus feel for them. That is the hidden power of fiction: to affect reality with words and dreams. Without fiction, reality would be boring. Even now fiction pushes us to affect our world. One day, we'll have AIs like WALL-E or R2-D2 roaming around. We'll have suits of power armor like Iron Man or Master Chief. We'll explore another planet, swim to the depths of the ocean. All because dreams and fiction inspired us when it asked "what if..?"
