Need an easy way to instantly improve your editing? Sepperate who's talking by paragraphs. Example:
The private detective walked up to the handsome receptionist, hoping to get some information out of him. "Ello! How do you do this fine morning?" He said.
The other man raised an eyebrow, pausing in sorting his paperwork. "Just fine, Sir... Is there something I can help you with?"
"Well, yes, there certainly is! Could you please point me to the washroom?"
"Of course, Sir, it's just down the hall to your right."
"Thank you, kindly!" The detective tipped his hat. "Say... Do you know of a Miss Rose? I thought she lived here, but when I knocked, all who came to the door was this charming gentleman with an accent."
End example.
Trust me, it really does make a world of difference. Readers would be more inclined to stay, and it'll be a lot easier to follow the storyline. There are so many good stories I'd like to read that my unfocused-editor brain doesn't let me. Even if this doesn't get to the writers of books I'll encounter in the future, I'd still like to help writers and readers alike with this common problem
