Update (Part 1) October Storm was an idea born of a conversation with a friend that gave me a book idea, and quickly became a story I was passionate about. But as I worked my way through the story, and was mapping out the plot of subsequent sequels in my head (I never plan a one-off book,) I began to realize the direction I envisioned the series heading was NOT the direction I felt I could make work, by combining our modern world and the magical world and events I was envisioning. I know there’s the argument of “you won’t know unless you try” but no matter how I worked it, I wasn’t happy with how it felt, and realized that if I’m not satisfied with my work, I felt I had no place presenting it to you, the reader. So I decided to split the ideas and go in two different directions. That is why I put the hiatus in place: to separate the book from the overall plot arc of subsequent novels, and thus create two different novels that started from one idea. In simpler terms, I’m removing the magic that I planned to introduce in October Storm, and I am working my way back through the chapters to realign the novel, the plot, and details that exist in the chapters already released, into a crime thriller/ suspense/ mystery novel, however you wish to label it. This has required me to redo some characters, change some plot items, and do some extra world building for October Storm.

(Part 2) Which brings me to the other portion of this update: a new novel. I am presently working on world building a second novel, born out of the magic-based ideas from the first. For now, I’ll simply call it [Project Elder] and leave it at that, until a time I’m ready to reveal more details about the novel, the setting, and the like. This is a novel I’ve been excited about for a long time, and will allow me the freedom to make a series of works I am excited to write. What I WILL announce about this novel, is that it’s a fantasy setting in it’s own unique world. I’ve already got the foundations of the magic system made, I’ve just finished the world map and naming the continents, and I will tell you that it will feature all of our fantasy favorites for races and creatures: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Vampires, Werewolves, Dragons, and more! I look forward to being able to share more details about [Project Elder] in the coming months, but in the meantime, keep your eye on Wattpad, as I plan to have October Storm updated by mid March! - K. van Niel P.S. - I might have also started a YouTube channel, “SomePenName,” where I plan to start streaming once or twice a month, and you can get glimpses into the world building for [Project Elder], so if you want an insider peak, or to come hang out in a setting that supports creative minds, go drop me a follow! I’ll be live this Friday!
