Historical James wasn't very compassionate/friendly at all. But he was confident- He barely smiled in public and wore black a lot. He also was very manipulative and for the most part was the puppeteer in Thomas's and James's relationship/friendship. James convinced Thomas to do a lot of things with verbal abuse and smooth talking, some of the things thomas didn't even wanna do. James wasn't very... nice tbh-
When Thomas's wife died he said:
"Good, maybe that'll get him back into politics."
He wasn't really a people person and people even said he was born a politician. He had some depression I know and had a dirty mind ;).
Thomas on the other hand,
Was very shy and nervous. He had stage fright. He only gave two public speeches during his terms as president, and both were stuttered and inaudible. So for a solution, they printed his speeches in the newspapers. Thomas also had social anxiety. He loved his wife very much and was by her bedside for 4 months while she was sick. When she died he was in such a powerful grief he burned her portraits, never spoke of her again, and didn't remarry.
