Why do such different things as autosexuality and NPD get confused? You may be called a narcissist, but they don't mean NPD at all? Why are such different mental states, the common manifestation of which is only that a person is convinced of his own exceptionalism and extraordinary value, confused or connected? Moreover, in the case of NPD, a person actually has a damaged sense of self-worth, so they are in a constant search for confirmation of their exceptionalism. Why are autosexuals called narcissists anyway? Let's start with the root. «Narco» is translated from Greek as "numbness, stupefaction, paralysis". This, by the way, has the same root as «n…rcotic» – also numbness, and also under a certain ecstasy. Perhaps the term "narcissism" is even more correct as a synonym for "autosexuality" rather than in relation to this kind of personality disorder. Like, you get this numb feeling when you look at your own body. But how can you get "numb" with NPD? Perhaps the point here is that you become so enamored with your supposed superiority that you begin to become numb to yourself. However, no other synonym has been invented for NPD. I don't know which came first, the chicken or the egg, what was the term "narcissism" originally used for - as a synonym for autosexuality or as a designation for "narcissistic personality disorder", but perhaps it really shouldn't have been associated with autosexuality when it was already associated with personality disorder? After all, this is precisely what caused a whirlwind of discontent in the style of “autosexuals are not narcissists,” and they didn’t come up with another synonym for NPD. Yes, the connection to the "numbness" associated with NPD is quite distant, but "hysteria" also comes from the word "uterus"—previously, "hysterical" behavior was associated with the "wandering of the uterus" – if the uterus shifts, then signs of hysteria appear. However, "hysteria" hasn't become synonymous with any biological problems with uterus..

and dissatisfied women don't write 100,500 articles about "why those with a shifted uterus aren't hysterical" Why are such completely different mental states confused or linked? Is it really because the names are practically synonymous? I'm pretty sure NO ONE would EVER compare these mental states, which are as far apart as the Earth and the Moon, if people didn't call autosexuality "narcissism" or if "[numbing] personality disorder" had some other name. In the case of NPD, it often only appears that way from the outside, that they "only love themselves, only think of themselves". Usually, it's the exact opposite: public self-glorification, fueled by an inability to empathize and considering only their own opinion to be the only true one (despite all logical arguments), is actually an attempt to at least somewhat conceal the emptiness within their wretched inner world. And narcissistic personality disorder is unlikely to occur with autosexuality. More likely, it's antisocial or hysterical, but not "narcissistic" – why would autosexuals become these bloodsucking leeches? However, something similar can also happen with autosexuality. «A person with autosexuality can experience emotional attachment to another person, but only to someone who admires them. In this case, the autosexual loves their own reflection in another person. And an autosexual person can perceive their own reflection in a mirror in much the same way as they perceive another person in reality (though I don't understand why this might be. I suppose it's simply easier for autosexual to project their appearance, personality, and body onto another person, even a phantom one, than to admit they're truly in love with themselves. Well... Let them pray that the reflection in the mirror isn't actually a terrifying creature pretending to be them, sorry)» But no, they're completely different mental states, which are confused mainly because of their names.
