I was utterly consumed by regret. I watched the filthy bow before those even filthier than themselves. That was when I realized, for a fleeting moment, that the world I had thought was rosy had only been waiting to slap me across the face.
I thought the world was painted in black and white. I thought black was far away, while white stood right beside me.
But the truth was, the world was gray;
gray everywhere.
I would search for pink just once, hoping it might make the world shimmer and coax the sun into shining again, only to find another shade of gray waiting for me.
Don't be sad. Your gray may be pale, while mine is the darkest shade of all.
Could such a thing happen? Yes. Of course it could. It was certainly not impossible.
But I wanted the impossible.
I wanted colors that shimmered beneath the sun like a rainbow.
Instead, all I found was a gray world.
