The GREAT SHOE WAR is about what happens when we enter a world we don't understand. In this case, the world of small business, and particularly a business run and serviced entirely by women. 

The story is based on the time I spent shining shoes for an upscale shoeshine company. The name of the company, as well as the names of anyone who worked there have all been changed, and much about this story has been fictionalized.
