Hello friends, excuse this rant but staying positive as a writer on Wattpad no longer seems feasible.
I uploaded The Extinction Games to Amazon KDP, as well as Kindle Unlimited. During the past 3 weeks I've had more page views on KU than I've had from being on Wattpad for over a year. So easy, without having to find friends or read other novels hoping someone will reciprocate.
Come on, @Wattpad, surely there's a way to help connect your millions of readers with writers who are giving you their books for free? Add to this, I'm making sales on Amazon and getting money for my efforts.
I love interacting with readers on Wattpad. This is what is unique about the platform, but I can't deny it's very disappointing when there's no way to advertise your novel to allow Wattpad readers to know you exist.
I've had my novel listed on plenty of Wattpad-approved profiles, but it doesn't seem to make a difference to my chances of being seen by anyone. Being 13th book down on a reading list that is 10 reading lists down the profile, doesn't equate to anyone ever knowing my book exists!
The Amazon algorithm seems to work better than the Wattpad one, considering I'm getting plenty of reads on there, and applying for my novel to be featured on Wattpad just seems to get ignored.
A Wattpad staff member suggested that I bring my friends and family onto Wattpad for more views. Dude, first of all, they've already read my novel. Secondly, I've given my novel (actually I gave two) to Wattpad for FREE, but you also want my friends and family to boost your membership? Do you want my dignity, too? :'-)
I will always appreciate the Wattpad readers who have read and commented on my novel, it has been a pleasure to interact with you...it's just a pity Wattpad doesn't seem interested in helping their writers to reach the many readers on their platform and are more interested in collecting free content and members to look good for shareholders. This one-sided relationship is not sustainable.
