Hello! It's been a while... too long. I've fallen into bad habits and haven't been writing as consistently as I want to be. Given the current situation in our world, I plan to establish more of a routine while staying home as much as possible. I am still working full-time, remotely, but since I don't have commutes to make and am not really leaving the house in order to do my part to prevent the spread of COVID-19, I plan to write more. Reading and writing, specifically the fantasy genre, has always been a way for me to escape the reality of our world, and I know that it can serve the same purpose for most of you. So here is my plan (subject to change at any point):

I'm slowly working on rewriting UNMARKED. Those updates will NOT be put on wattpad in the near future as I smooth it out and polish it. I'm rewriting it more intentionally so that I can lead into the sequel a bit better. The reality is that though many of you love UNMARKED in its current form - it is a first draft. What I can tell you now is that while the general plot remains the same, some characters have been cut, and some locations swapped. So far I'm happy with the way it's turning out.

Second: I am going to continue writing As Dark as the Forest. The feel of this novel and the societal themes that I plan to address in it are I think very important to this time. I want it to be a novel about perseverance. I am currently rereading my first 28k words to refresh myself and then intend to continue Ori and Asher's stories.

Anyway, things are starting to get pretty dire here - I live in New York State, and though I am hours from the city, cases of COVID-19 have begun to pop up with frequency in my region. I'm afraid for my grandparents and immune-compromised friends, and for that reason I am staying home. How are things where you are? How are you coping?

Thank you for the update.
However you didn't talk about dragon marked. What's up with it?
N things aren't much different here. Life goes on. Hardly any confinement.

@FrankOShea Thank you! We are mostly self isolating here - everyone is working from home etc. Except for the grocery stores which people are flocking to and panic buying everything. But even as someone who normally doesn't like to leave the house anyway, the days get monotonous. Thankfully the weather is turning more mild here so I can go out and walk! Wish i could go out on my back porch to write, but alas... Either way, looking forward to turning this situation into an opportunity to get more writing out into the world!

@LadyKnightMeg Hello, Lady Meg. I've missed you and our unmarked friends. Things aren't too bad where I live, except for a handful of rich jerks who openly, and in one case even violently, flout self-isolation policies and even quarantine. I'm a bit of a shut-in, so I don't have a big problem with that, although I need human contact to stay sane just like anybody. I'm looking forward to reading more of your writing.

Hi! Hope you're keeping well. I just binged Unmarked in a couple of days and I loved it. I am seeing the hints of Tamora Pierce and adore a strong female lead with romance not being the only thing they are concerned with! I loved how it ended too! I hope you find inspiration and motivation to come back to the second book. I certainly would be thrilled if you did! You're so talented! All the best, Rey

@justcuriousrey thank you so much for taking the time to write a note to me! I’m so glad you enjoyed Unmarked… you are definitely not alone in hoping I’ll finally get back to the sequel. It’s definitely taking me much longer than I would have liked, but there were some aspects to unmarked that really needed some changes (I pantsed most of it and while everyone seems to love it, it’s mad it difficult to write the sequel. So, as a result I’m actually working on a big revision of it right now. Lots of good changes, but hopefully the core of the characters and the story remain. Tamora Pierce is definitely one of my earliest influences, so it’s an honor to receive complements including her name! But even Alanna’s original manuscript started out so different from what it became once published, so I guess it’s normal to make big changes ;). I hope to make an announcemenbt here when I finally finish my rewrite of book 1, and then hopefully will have a much smoother transition to book 2!

Hey there! I just found your books and LOVE them but I noticed its been a while since we've had an update on Dragon Marked. No rush, I understand that books take time to write and I would rather wait a bit for a really good book than a rushed work, I'm just wondering if you are going to revise or rewrite first, or work on other projects and come back later? Also just really wanted to tell you how great your books are!

Omnomfish

@Omnomfish hey happy to help! I'm very excited to read the revised version!

@Omnomfish and now... just like that i've had a breakthrough on UNMARKED and am back to revising it. A really good breakthrough. Maybe you wattpadders worked some sort of magic!

@Omnomfish Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me! I always tear up a little, knowing that people are enjoying my books. I have been trying so hard to revise UNMARKED in order to have a smoother plot for DRAGON MARKED, but I have had trouble figuring out exactly what needs to be fixed. For now I'm taking a break and working on a new project which is a romantic fantasy set in a wild west styled world. I'm not 100% sure if I will be posting it here or not - depends how I feel once I really get going with it. But thank you again for taking the time to post - it always helps to have words of encouragement on days when I feel like my writing isn't going anywhere!
