Deborah attempted to write her first book at age 8. Her first novel, The Unwilling Heiress, was chosen as a Best Book by the American Bookseller's Association. In the two decades that followed, she produced poetry and wrestled with Bipolar Disorder, while supporting herself in a procession of entirely unsuitable non-writing jobs. She married professional percussionist Robert Hamaker in 2005 and began writing full time.
Her second book, Is There Room for Me, Too?, is a self help manual for the mentally ill. For years she maintained a blog on mental health issues, now archived at www.alteredstatescentral.blogspot.com. She published a second comic romance, A Scandalous Creature, in 2011. Her poetry has been included in over 10 anthologies, most notably the infamous "Poets from Hell" anthology by Trafford Press(2005).Her first full length poetry collection, Armadillo, was released in 2014 by Cyborg Productions.
Deborah no longer understands why she ever bothered with anything besides writing.
