Her books have been translated into 26 languages and are being developed for film and TV adaptations by Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way, and Additional Dialogue. Her twisty crossover thrillers Broken Monsters, The Shining Girls, Zoo City and Moxyland have been praised by Stephen King, George RR Martin, Gillian Flynn, William Gibson, James Ellroy and Joe Hill, among others.

Her comics work includes SURVIVORS' CLUB, an original horror comic book series with Dale Halvorsen and Ryan Kelly for Vertigo (DC Comics) due out in October 2015, the Fables spin-off graphic novel Fairest: The Hidden Kingdom with Inaki Miranda, and a Wonder Woman one-shot for kids, "The Trouble With Cats," in Sensation Comics #9, starring Zozo, an African girl in Soweto who finds her own inner superhero.
Beukes lives in South Africa with her daughter and a cat who thinks it is hilarious to claw at her fingers while she's typing.
