I'm not sure where my love of the game of Baseball comes from, but certainly it's not due to my player-ability.

Over the years, that love has grown from little-league player, to parent - and the blessings the Game has provided my family - more specifically my sons, are many.

My shaggy-dog career in youth baseball began in Upstate New York in 1968, at age 7, with my debut as the non-starting, right fielder on the Warehouse Market team in the City of Amsterdam's Wee-Men Minors league.

It was a death sentence.

Where most players are known to possess at least 1 of 5 Tools of Baseball - I had no tools.

I didn't even have a toolbox.

Being left-handed, the worst glove, and slowest runner on the team, I was demoted from right field to 1st base - then to catcher, where I held my own - as the only left-handed catcher in the league - and likely the entire Empire State.

As catcher, my blocking and receiving skills caused me to be more of a skilled back-stopper-of-the-ball than actual backstop; yet held my own, and "ruled" the defensive side of the dish in the youth leagues, until my playing career came to an abrupt - and predictable end at age 17.

I've no particular baseball pedigree or claim to fame in the circles of Baseball - and at the end of the day, I'm more parent (just like you, or your parents) than writer, and forever a student of the Game.

Despite my lack of a credible baseball background, my sons have realized college baseball recruitment success - and the benefits each has earned continue to pay a dividend in multiples.  With so much success - it's time to give back, and help others - who dream the big dream, of one day, playing college baseball.
