Petra Quill was born on Earth, Missouri, to a young mother whose warmth and love were both fierce and fleeting. Her father, a distant figure, left before she could remember him. Her mother died when Petra was only a few years old, leaving her with a tiny, fragile world suddenly upended.
Unbeknownst to her, Petra carried Celestial blood—a remnant of her mother’s heritage—that lay dormant, almost imperceptible, under the surface of her human life. At first, it manifested only subtly: strange bursts of heat, glimmers of gold in her eyes when she cried, unexplained strength. Her mother tried to hide it, warned her that the world would never forgive a child who could wield such power.
