Friendships should be a 50 to 50 effort. I think of friendships like a bridge. Every bridge has two sides. One side of the bridge is your own, the other your friends. You can build up and strengthen your end of the bridge although unless the other individual puts in time or effort the bridge will only be half finished or unstable and crumble. The bridge can break, fall apart, be worn down. But it can also be rebuilt. You can extend your end of the bridge and attempt to rebuild it, however, in the end it depends on the other person. Although you've put in the effort to rebuild them every time and that's admirable. You can't control if the other person builds their bridge up or not although you can build yours. So if you put in the effort, if you try, if you work your hardest and the friendship fails...remember that is not a reflection on you but on them. It's not your fault. You built your end but they didn't build theirs and you can't build their side for them.
