To my dear readers, I never thought I’d be writing something like this. Not as an author of fiction, but as a person who had chosen the name "Milestone High" for my fictional story—a name that recently became tied to a heartbreaking, very real tragedy.I named the high school in my story Milestone High after a real school named "Milestone School and College" because it sounded elegant to me. But on July 21, 2025, in Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh, a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI fighter jet crashed directly into Milestone School and College, during what was supposed to be an ordinary afternoon. The pilot had taken off for a routine training flight from Kurmitola Air Base. But just minutes later, a technical malfunction turned that routine into a disaster. The jet slammed into a two-storey school building packed with students from grades 1 to 8. Imagine that. Kids. Sitting in classrooms. Laughing, learning—completely unaware that death was diving toward them from the sky. The crash was apocalyptic. The explosion set off a fireball. The building cracked, crumbled, and bled smoke. Panic erupted. The cries of children, the screams of teachers, the sirens—it was chaos. And amidst it all, the innocent died. At least 100 lives were lost. 95% of them were children. Many kids are injured. Some of the kids’ bodies were so badly burn that doctors couldn’t even insert a cannula. And even those who survived… are never going to forget the horror they lived through. I can’t just use the name in fiction without telling you about those souls who had no idea they’d never make it home that day. I am so saddened and shocked by this tragedy that I just felt like I had to share it with you all. Your Author, Ibdika.
