The DissociaDID controversy primarily centers on allegations of sensationalizing Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) for financial gain and views. Critics accused the creator, Chloe Wilkinson, of "faking" or manipulating symptoms, misappropriating racial identities through her alters, and spreading misinformation regarding the disorder.
Key Areas of Controversy
Racial Appropriation Allegations: Wilkinson was accused of cultural appropriation after claiming some of her alters were of different races than her body, specifically naming a Black alter named "Nadia" and an Asian alter named "Gregory". Critics argued that alters cannot inhabit a different race and that portraying these alters perpetuated harmful stereotypes and reduced race to mere appearance.
Sensationalization and "Fake Claiming": Many commentators in the DID community alleged that Wilkinson sensationalized the disorder, making it appear more dramatic and visually exciting than it typically is. This led to intense discourse around whether she was authentic or "faking" for attention and money.
Misinformation and Educational Quality: Despite aiming to educate, the channel was criticized for presenting uncommon, "overt" presentations of DID as typical, which critics argue harms the perception of those with "covert" DID. Allegations also surfaced regarding the use of "fictional" alter content that some felt bordered on improper content.
Handling of Criticism: Wilkinson was accused of mishandling criticism, including deleting apologies, blocking followers who pointed out hypocrisies, and failing to deliver on promised changes.

@LilacApollosChild it’s all good! Sorry for the late response, you don’t have to work on that assumption. You can believe what you like, I’m just telling you what I’ve heard.

@LilacApollosChild i deeply apologize, I had no idea it was fake claiming at first glance. I’d never would want to do that to a system and I can delete this message board if it makes you uncomfortable. Some of the stuff was on Reddit as well, but it felt wrong to put a Reddit post with all of these real reliable sources, than that app, because people fight there now, but if you trust Reddit you can read that too lol. I wouldn’t want to assume anything if I was you though because you watch them, I just heard this happened years ago and thought you’d would want to look now that I remembered it. Do some more research if you would like to, not pressuring you too. - https://www.reddit.com/r/DissociaDID/comments/1kbzjw5/misinformation_dissociadid_spreads_a_master_list/ - https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubedrama/comments/1ewfs48/whats_the_deal_with_dissociadid/
