heyy, i think wp removed the direct messaging feature, but i have a question for you! since you’ve seemed to have a lot of situations going on that interrupted you from being able to write and share your work as per usual, i’m curious if there’s anything specific you do in your routine to help you overcome that? like any non-negotiable habits or writing goals that help you stay on track? i’m working on a novella right now, and i could really use some advice for whenever things get busy, especially when school starts up again

@657687v oh yeah that is so true (what you said about how crucial the drafting process is). It’s also great that you already have a very good idea of what themes and mysteries you want to include, since I’m sure those will come out more naturally in your story as you write with those in mind.

@Linonymous i agree with you, drafting is the most fun (—and imo, most stressful—) part of the story. it’s so straightforward, but it also quite literally makes or breaks the project. there are many themes besides the child neglect that i’m trying to list as i go rather than analyze too deeply, since it’s written in a very fairytale-esque prose. there are certain themes that propel the story (i.e., child neglect, the sacredness of life), and then there are more subtle ones that have to be picked up on through one-liners and imagery. the main point of interest of the novella wouldn’t be the message/themes at first, since they only start to make sense at the very end. the mystery of the characters and the island are what propel the story to its conclusion for most of it

@657687v oh, yeah I can imagine how child neglect plays in with the whole “lotus fruit” aspect of the story. With that being said, it makes a lot of sense why Leela wouldn’t want to become a lotus-eater like the people who neglect her.
