I have this headcanon for Breath of the Wild, the reason that Zelda was unable to awaken her sealing power, AKA the Triforce of Wisdom, was because of the idea that the expectations her father has set for her was the only reason to awaken it. She of course, knew she had to awaken it for the sake of Hyrule, but she did not truly have any true desire to protect. She wanted to meet her father's expectations and be done with the ordeal with Ganon so she could go back to studying the ancient technology she was so infatuated with. The only real proof I have is her wording at the spring of power, where she explains her frustrations over her father's expectations and is angered that she can't awaken her power and the circumstances she did finally awaken it under, which is her whole-hearted desire to protect Link from the guardians that were about to kill him.
